Serious Crash on I-395 in Bangor Sends Two to Hospital
Bangor, Maine – A serious single-vehicle crash on Interstate 395 late Friday night resulted in two individuals being rushed to the hospital. The incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. at mile marker 1, when a 1992 Mazda Miata, driven by 23-year-old Devon Ireland, lost control and overturned, coming to rest across both eastbound lanes of traffic.
Preliminary investigations by state police indicate that Ireland was attempting to navigate a turn when he failed to maintain control of the vehicle. He sustained significant injuries, as did his passenger, 23-year-old Lauren McCann, who was ejected from the car during the crash. Reports suggest that McCann was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered life-threatening injuries.
Both occupants, residents of Bangor, were transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center for treatment. As of Saturday morning, no updates on their conditions were available.
Authorities believe that speed and alcohol may have played a role in the crash. In light of the incident, state police issued a traffic alert, advising motorists to expect delays and to avoid the area if possible as they worked to clear the roadway.
Traffic was disrupted for several hours, but the scene was eventually cleared by Union Street Towing, with the highway re-opening at approximately 11:30 p.m.
