Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii Eager for UK Tour with Wallabies
SYDNEY – Fresh from his NRL season with the Sydney Roosters, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii is ready to showcase his skills on the international stage as he prepares for an upcoming UK tour with the Wallabies. The 21-year-old rugby union prodigy, who recently signed a multimillion-dollar deal with the NSW Waratahs and Wallabies, has joined a “training hub” in Canberra this week, honing his skills under the guidance of renowned Test coach Joe Schmidt.
As Rugby Australia (RA) prepares to send two squads overseas in November for a series of matches against England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland, Suaalii expressed his enthusiasm and readiness for action. “Yeah, I’m ready, if they throw me in, I’m ready to go,” he stated. Suaalii, who felt refreshed after a short break following the Roosters’ preliminary finals in September, is eager to fine-tune his rugby skills, emphasizing that the fundamentals are simple.
With significant scrutiny surrounding his massive contract, Suaalii remains undeterred. “I’m ready for that… it’s just my life and my dreams,” he explained. Having shifted from league to union, he aims to leverage his learnings from veterans like Joey Manu and Luke Keary during his NRL tenure to enhance his performance in rugby.
Suaalii, previously a schoolboy star long-courted by both rugby codes, is looking to make a mark on the field and contribute effectively to the Waratahs and Wallabies. Open to playing any position in the backline, he believes his experience with the Roosters will serve him well in this new chapter of his rugby career. As the UK tour approaches, expectations are high, but Suaalii remains focused on his development and the opportunity to represent Australia on the global stage.
