Moosehead Lake, ME – A 74-year-old man was rescued Wednesday morning after suffering serious injuries while hiking Borestone Mountain in Piscataquis County. The incident occurred around 11 a.m. when the hiker, whose identity remains undisclosed, lost his balance while reaching for a water bottle after successfully summiting the mountain.
Witnesses reported that the hiker fell approximately 15 feet onto rocky terrain, followed by an additional 10-foot fall. Fortunately, fellow hikers, including two nurses from the midcoast area, immediately stepped in to provide first aid and contacted emergency services.

The Monson Fire Department was the first agency to arrive at the summit, quickly joined by teams from Greenville, Sangerville, and Dover-Foxcroft, as well as the Maine Warden Service and the Maine Forest Service.
After a coordinated rescue effort, first responders successfully airlifted the injured man off the mountain. He was subsequently transported via LifeFlight of Maine to a nearby trauma center for further evaluation and treatment.
