Portland Weather Update: Cooler Temperatures and Rain Ahead
PORTLAND (WGME) – After a stunning start to the week, Portland’s weather is set to shift dramatically as clouds and cooler temperatures make their way back into the forecast. Thursday’s weather is rated a modest 7 on Santom’s Sky Scale, featuring seasonal temperatures inland but cooler conditions along the coast. While the UV index remains low at a 1, there is a slight chance for isolated showers throughout the day, although most areas should remain dry, with occasional peeks of sunshine.
For those venturing out on the water, expect 2 to 3-foot waves, though visibility may drop to 1 to 3 miles as fog develops by late Thursday. This fog is anticipated to roll inland early Friday morning, potentially impacting the morning commute. However, morning sunshine is expected to dissipate the fog before it returns later in the evening.
As we head into Friday, temperatures are projected to reach the low-to-mid 70s, with a possibility of isolated storms inland. Late-day clearing may provide some relief from the gray skies. Looking towards the weekend, a marked drop in temperatures is forecasted, with highs only in the 60s. Steady rainfall, which may be heavy at times, is expected to begin Saturday, with limited sunshine anticipated until late in the day. Coastal areas should also experience fog with gusty winds reaching 20 to 25 MPH in the afternoons on both Saturday and Sunday.
As the weekend progresses, morning showers on Sunday may give way to some sunshine later in the day. The forecast predicts most regions will receive around an inch of rain. For any weather inquiries, our Weather Authority team invites you to reach out at weather@wgme.com.
