Maine High School Football Classifications Expand for 2025-2026 Seasons
In an exciting development for high school football enthusiasts, the Maine Principals Association has announced a significant expansion in its largest classification, Class A, which will increase from 12 to 14 teams for the 2025 and 2026 seasons. Beginning this fall, Deering High School and Massabesic High School will transition from Class B to the newly expanded Class A. The competitive landscape in Class A will now feature teams like Bangor, Edward Little, and Portland, alongside newcomers Deering and Massabesic.
The state championship format will remain structured with title games pitting North region champions against South region champions for both Class A and Class B. In Class B, teams are divided into Northern and Southern regions, while Classes C and D and the 8-Man leagues showcase varied competitions, ensuring teams from all regions have a chance to compete at different levels.
