Few Answers One Year After Couple’s Death in Bangor Police Chase

Families Seek Answers One Year After Fatal Police Chase

It’s been one year since a tragic car crash during a police chase claimed the lives of Noah Mushero, 39, and Sheena Soctomah-Rolfe, 39. The incident, which occurred on July 22, 2024, unfolded on Finson Road and has left families in anguish over the unanswered questions surrounding that fateful day.

According to police, a Penobscot County Sheriff’s deputy was pursuing Mushero and Soctomah-Rolfe when their vehicle veered off the road and collided with a tree. The chase reportedly transpired just moments before the crash, and no witnesses were present. Soctomah-Rolfe had an outstanding warrant for alleged drug trafficking, marking this as the second police pursuit involving the couple within a 48-hour period.

Kiannah Soctomah, who turns 18 this week, reflects on the profound emptiness she feels in her mother’s absence. "This feeling is like a heavy cloud hanging over me," she shared, expressing her longing to hear her mother’s voice once more. The lack of clarity about the circumstances surrounding the crash is equally distressing; she does not even know the name of the deputy involved in the chase.

As of mid-May, investigations into the incident were still ongoing. The Bangor Police Department has completed its investigation, submitting findings to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office. However, Sheriff Troy Morton indicated that a comprehensive review is contingent on receiving outstanding reports, which will only be released once any potential civil matters are settled.

Notably, there is no dashboard camera footage available from the sheriff’s office, as the cameras were not activated during the chase. Compounding the tragedy, both families noted that Mushero, while loving Soctomah-Rolfe, was on probation and prohibited from being with her on the day of the crash. As they await results, grieving families remain hopeful for transparency and accountability.
