University of Maine Athletics announces the second annual ‘Goody’s Gloves’ Drive for Maine Baseball

The University of Maine baseball team has announced its second annual ‘Goody’s Gloves’ drive, set to take place on November 15th. The drive is named in honor of former Black Bears pitcher, Scott “Goody” Goodey, who tragically passed away in 2019.

The goal of the drive is to collect new and gently used baseball gloves to donate to children in need across the state of Maine. Last year, the team collected over 100 gloves and distributed them to various youth baseball organizations. This year, they hope to surpass that number and provide even more children with the opportunity to participate in the sport they love.

Head coach, Nick Derba, emphasized the importance of giving back to the community and helping to grow the game of baseball in Maine. He expressed his gratitude for the support received last year and encouraged others to participate in the drive this year.

In addition to collecting gloves, the team will also be accepting monetary donations to purchase new gloves for children in need. Those interested in donating can drop off gloves at the Mahaney Dome on November 15th or make a monetary donation online.

The ‘Goody’s Gloves’ drive is a wonderful opportunity for the University of Maine baseball team to make a positive impact on the community and help foster a love of the game in young athletes. By coming together to support this cause, individuals can help ensure that all children have the opportunity to play baseball, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Overall, the drive is a great way for the team to honor the memory of Scott Goodey and continue his legacy of giving back to the community.
