The defending champion Ellsworth High School Eagles defeated Hermon 4-2 in a rematch of last year’s Class B North schoolgirl soccer final. Ellsworth scored two quick goals in the first 3:37 of the game, with Lizzy Boles and Lily Bean finding the back of the net. Miah Coffin added two more goals for the Eagles in the second half. Hermon’s Madison Stewart scored both goals for her team. Hermon’s coach M.J. Ball admitted that it was tough to come back after conceding two early goals. Both teams had multiple chances throughout the game, with Ellsworth showing strong defense against Hermon’s attacks. Sophomore goalkeeper Allie Bivins made some crucial saves for Ellsworth, while Becca Balmas had a solid performance in her varsity debut in goal for Hermon. Coffin’s two goals in the second half sealed the victory for Ellsworth. Both teams will play again on Saturday, with Ellsworth visiting Caribou and Hermon traveling to Old Town. Ellsworth coach Eric Terrill praised his team’s defense and strategy in containing Hermon’s threats, particularly Brooke Gallop. Overall, it was a competitive game with both teams showing determination and skill on the field.
