Former high school baseball standout Cody Bowker, originally from Bowdoinham and a graduate of Thornton Academy, has made a successful transfer to Vanderbilt University after two strong seasons at Georgetown. Bowker, a right-handed pitcher, caught the attention of Vanderbilt coach Tim Corbin after impressing in a summer league game. Now, he is projected to be a weekend starter for Vanderbilt, a top Division I program in the SEC.
During his time at Georgetown, Bowker was primarily a starter and put up impressive numbers in his sophomore season. With a 3.00 ERA and 59 strikeouts over 48.0 innings, he proved his ability on the mound. Moving forward with Vanderbilt, Bowker remains open to any role that will benefit the team and is prepared to face some tough competition in the SEC, including the defending College World Series champions, Texas A&M.
Bowker’s former teammate, Jacob Humphrey, also transferred to Vanderbilt after a successful career at UMass-Lowell. Despite some injury setbacks in the past, Humphrey is looking forward to contributing more this season. Both players have overcome challenges and are ready to make an impact for the Commodores this year.
