Fire Destroys St. Albans Family Home, Investigation Underway
ST. ALBANS, ME — A devastating fire engulfed a family home on Bryant Road Saturday afternoon, prompting an extensive investigation by officials. The St. Albans Fire Department received an emergency call at 1:17 p.m. reporting the blaze at 73 Bryant Road, as Chief Paul Doughty describes the scene as a “very advanced fire” upon arrival, with flames raging on all sides of the house.
Remarkably, no one was home when the fire broke out, but the house, belonging to Ashlee and Kelby Duplisea, was home to a family of eight and is now a total loss. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and the Office of State Fire Marshal is leading the investigation.
The remote location of the home presented significant challenges for firefighting efforts. Chief Doughty noted that the area’s water supply system made it difficult to transport water to the scene. Fire departments from Hartland Corinna, Plymouth, Newport, Dexter, Detroit, Canaan, Skowhegan, and Pittsfield provided mutual aid, working tirelessly until 7:30 p.m.
“In rural towns like St. Albans, the water supply becomes a challenge in advanced fires like this,” Doughty explained. “Each trip to refill tankers is lengthy and resource-intensive.”
The local community has rallied in support, with the Red Cross reaching out to assist the displaced family. The Maine Department of Public Safety has not yet commented on the incident, but further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
Residents of St. Albans are encouraged to remain vigilant and aware as authorities work to uncover the cause of this tragic event.
